According to one report there are about one hundred and twenty thousand registered mosques in Pakistan with an equal number of unregistered ones. However, actual number of Mosques in Lahore & Pakistan is very high. I watched many international movies which play Muslims morning Prayer Call (Adhan or Azan) in the background when they show Pakistan. I see that there is mosque in almost every other street in Lahore especially in older parts of the city. One can listen tens of such loudspeaker Prayer calls from tens of mosques especially in the morning. They often go concurrently in a sequence.
Although numbers of prayers are often less than one percent of the population but Mosques are respected widely. Some people blame that Mosques use huge resources including large land, waste of electricity and water.

These Mosques and Imam mosques have considerable influence and role in Pakistan. Mosque Imams conduct (recite) marriages (Nikah) between bride and groom. They visit homes to teach Quran reading to children. My Aunt has arranged a Maulvi Qari Imam to teach Quran to my children.

Pakistan is a rigid Muslim country. Azan is allowed officially but often high volume cause disputes. Pakistan government and military law enforcing agencies blames some mosques spreading hatred and use of Mosques of loud speakers other than Prayer Call. There are many other things for which Mosque loudspeakers are used. Some include death announcements and dead people prayer call, announcement of lost children or sometimes government messages like medical services alerts.
